Transparency in IT Problem Resolution

I’ve been in IT for over 10 year, most of the time in some sort of break-fix role. It is refreshing to see that a company that trades on the strength of its IT staff is willing to be completely honest about what went wrong when things break. My web hosting provided, DreamHost, suffered what can only be described as an unfortunate confluence of events (a favorite expression of mine) that resulted in what we, in the industry, call downtime.

It’s a pretty crazy world we live in

I started out the year fully intending on finding some quiet time once or twice a week to sit down and write a few entries. Just minor stuff, links I found interesting… social commentary… the usual rubbish. Looking at the archives, I managed alright until the end of March.

That is when we went on vacation. We had good time, but when I got back to work. Whoa… strap on the seat belt and hang on. April began with me leaving for San Antonio over the Easter weekend and Katie going to Vegas with a couple of her friends. She had a good time. I was working and it was extremely humid and raining in San Antonio. When Katie got back she complained about how crappy she felt when she was in Vegas… she took a pregnancy test and… we found out that we are going to be parents!
